The Dalai Lama, that guy really has life sorted.
He’s happy. And surprisingly to our social media generation, he’s not a tall, tanned Instagram bikini model with 1 million followers that gets to wear designer threads all the time. He’s a balding man who wears the same thing every day and spends very little time in a scroll hole.
Who’d have thought it?
So why do most of us idolise those who haven’t proven to have anything except a good marketing strategy and a photographer for a boyfriend?
Why don’t we check in with what the Dalai Lama is doing every day?
Many reasons, really. But today I want to break down some of my favourite DL quotes and put it out there to you that maybe you take a day off Facebook, or unfollow anyone that triggers those negative thoughts about yourself?
Instead, focus on the words that one of the happiest people on this planet has shared -
Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
This fits in so perfectly with my life. What I wanted was to be a stay at home mama, with a husband who made a good enough living to take us on nice holidays and let me buy clothes when I wanted. What I wanted was not what I got. I got much more than that. Thank goodness.
We have bigger houses, but smaller families;
More conveniences, but less time;
We have more degrees, but less sense;
More knowledge, but less judgement;
More experts, but more problems;
More medicines, but less healthiness;
We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour.
We built more computers to hold more information, to product more copies than ever, but have less communication.
We have become long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are time of fast food but slow digestion;
Tall man but short character;
Steep profits but shallow relationships.
It is a time where there is much in the window, but nothing in the room.
I mean, seriously! I could read that over and over again. And please do that. But also take action. Go and meet your neighbour. Say good riddance to fast food and choose to rest and digest after a nourishing meal. Communicate in person with those you love.
Our enemies provide us with a precious opportunity to practice patience and love. We should have gratitude toward them.
I love how this teaches us that it’s either a blessing or a lesson. Not only our enemies but also the struggles in life will always give us some type of gift, not always wrapped up how we think!
The more you are motivated by LOVE, the more fearless and free your action will be.
Love, in every moment, is the answer. So much truth right there.
We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us, and make us kinder. We always have the choice.
I know that I have been through thing in life that should’ve hardened me. Things that should’ve made me bitter and hateful towards the world. But working through those emotional blocks and learning to see experiences in a different light means that when I feel something wasn’t fair, I find the truth behind the experience.
And lastly, I want to leave you with my favourite words from this amazing man -
Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions.
