NOURISHING SNACKS

When I sent out an email a few weeks ago asking what you want more of from me, many of you replied with what I like to eat and what I snack on.  That seems to be a really difficult area for most - SNACKING!

I've listed below my top 22 snack ideas.

Some are perfect for your handbag, to take to work and some are just right to keep in the fridge or pantry at home.  The most important element of healthy snacking is organisation and preparation!  If you're starving and there is nothing on hand, you're likely going to grab something that won't nourish you.

1. Fruit

Seriously, so simple.  If you're out for the day and you don't know when you'll be home again, throw a banana or apple in your handbag.  I keep a little jar of grapes with me when they're in season because I can feed myself or Bo if either of us gets grouchy.

2. Bliss Balls

Make your own or find my favourite recipe in the Treat Your Tastebuds recipe e-book.

3. Cut up carrot sticks with organic hummus.

4. Green Smoothie

Occasionally I'll supersize my green smoothie and keep some of it in the fridge for later.  It means if I'm suddenly hungry and it's not meal time, I have something quick to grab.

5. Medjool Dates

I like to cut mine open and smear in some almond butter.  Perfect sweet treat!

6. Overnight Chia Oats

There is no reason you can't have a small portion of this for a mid morning snack.

7. Kale Chips

8. Apple Slices with Almond Butter

9. Hard Boiled Eggs

10. Chocolate Coconut Granola

11. Handful of Raw Nuts with Goji Berries

12. Sweet Potato Crisps

Preheat your oven to 220 degrees and thinly slice a small sweet potato.  Coat in coconut oil and some salt and roast for 15 minutes or until crispy!

13. Coconut Yogurt with Fresh Berries

14. Coconut Dates

Throw 10 pitted dates in a food processor and blend until smooth.  Roll into little logs and cover in shredded coconut.

15. Chia Pudding

16. Raw Cookie Dough Balls

17. Banana Nice Cream

18. Avocado and Tomato on Buckwheat Crispibread

19. Seaweed Crisps

20. Acai Smoothie

Blend one pack of pure frozen Acai with one banana and 1/2 cup pure apple juice. I like to stir chia seeds through mine.

21. Dark Choc Nut Clusters

Melt 70% dark chocolate.  Line a tray with baking paper and create little bite sized groups of your favorite nuts, shredded coconut and dried fruits.  Pour melted chocolate over and leave in the freezer to set.

22. Avo Wraps

Mash 1/2 an avocado with some sea salt and lemon juice then spread into washed endive leaves. Occasionally I'll top with a little feta.

That's it!  Obviously there are millions of more options but I'm done.  Let me know below - what is your favourite nourishing snack?
